These interviews describe the Department of Sanitation’s months-long work restoring lower Manhattan after the collapse of the World Trade Center buildings on September 11, 2001; they also describe the investigation and recovery operations at Fresh Kills landfill on Staten Island. This is not the exhaustive list of stories, but a small section of the lived experiences from that day; additional interviews are ongoing and will be added soon.
